Philosophy of Social Justice
What is Social Justice?
Social Justice is a term used to have fairness in the forms of science, history and the social sciences. In regards to my project social justice means fairness through the STEM fields and have society be literate about basic science in order to live a better life. In my opinion social justice is having the logic and moral sense of certain issues. I know from Mr. MD’s class I have learned how people are poorly educated and being exploited in a way to make money. So industries have this system set up so people aren’t scientifically literate so as to have them down on the social level.
What obstacles do we face while struggling to achieve social justice?
The obstacles one faces are mostly economical. Since most of theones whom are oppressed don’t make a lot of money. Our history still repeats itself and I know this because of the classes I have taken. For instance Aflat (African American and Latino History) has taught me how both African Americans and Latinos are being oppressed even through the last 50 years, which is incredible. By then society has had to be more civilized and understand diversity. Even through science this is seen because medicinal substances don’t consider the traditional or indigenous medicines. They just want people to buy their products and not buy a cheaper one through indigenous culture.
What is your vision for struggle?
My vision is to educate society how vehicles are potentially more sustainable than the industries make them. It’s like they want us to buy gas in order for our cars to function. However, the technology nowadays can solve it. I’ve seen videos where grease is used as gas to run cars like the possibility is there it’s just that companies construct a system which we depend on oil and gas. Yet, that renewable energy sources is made expensive and people cannot afford it. So then people use the nonrenewable resources because it’s cheaper. People then need to be aware and change how vehicles function. Again, one person can inspire, but a collective group can change.
What is your role in the struggle?
My role in the struggle is to inform others of these situations. I can see myself trying to fix and engine and designing a car that does not harm the environment. Again, the technology is there it is there it is just a matter of having someone act on it. I will begin to start researching these topics concerning with cars because of personal interest. As I have said before I want to be a mechanical engineer and work with automobiles so that will me an expert in the subject and strive for better transportation.
