Critical Reflection
Through the process of this project I have learned new basic skills and content knowledge about a topic I was interested in. In my two classes that I worked on I also learned how to be more independent and research on my own. This project
has given me skills like critical analysis, researching, using citations etc. Those skills are the ones I need to have mastered when entering college and I have succeeded. I have also learned new knowledge about the world around me through my topic, like how we literally depend on oil and how we can have a societal collapses if we do not find another source of energy. I never knew our world could be so weak and primitive.
I have also learned that there are higher powers above us and that we need to detain them. Those high powers have brought only destruction and chaos. It has made our world the way it is right now, an injustice. Yet, I am also part of this because I support sweatshops by purchasing clothes made by them. However, there are other alternative like the second hand store, but society has internalized this
idea that buying second hand is not civilized. So society itself detains from being more progressive. I have the choice of not utilizing products from human rights violators but I still do. It should be logical of what is right and what is wrong and yet people choose not to. This leads to criticizing me because of how supportive I am. The system though is designed to be the only one and so people have no other just system.
Because of the big companies and industries that manipulate the system to their will. I mean it all
goes back to who is the oppressor and who is not. Paulo Freire says that people should fight, but not the point of becoming the oppressor. That would only worsen the situation and nothing would change. Everything is connected because the three main branches which are societal, economical and political are the key to solving the countless issues around the globe. I said this in my philosophy
“one person can inspire, but a collective group can change”. In the end one problem leads to another and so forth, each problem leading to questions that are left unanswered. Thus, Paulo Freire states that the ‘banking’system needs to stop. People need to conscious about their surroundings and be educated in order for them to have justice. Ignorant people are the ones who are susceptible to being oppressed. He says that people need to educated knowledge that is relevant to them because then the student loses interest and both the student and teacher need to share their experiences. So that both have both hold equal power instead of it being unbalanced. This leads to more knowledge and be more open minded, that way. Then by having bright minds people will begin to realize the manipulated system held in power by the oppressor. Therefore, the new generations need to be aware of this system and be taught about the world’s
infrastructure and how it affects them, because if they are not taught then the
system and history repeats itself.
